Mr Payne, Wakefield
Car enthusiast Derrick Payne, from Wakefield, is in big demand at
weddings when he volunteers to get the bride to the church on time.
His gleaming white 1971 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow adds a touch of
class to the big day. However, Derrick, 74, thought he might have
to give up his chauffeuring hobby because the car needed an
expensive overhaul. But now, by releasing value from his bungalow,
he can afford to have the work done on the car, plus some house
renovations, including new windows and a conservatory.
The former RAF engineering officer says: “I am a widower and have no dependants, so I am not looking to leave the house to anyone. I felt that I should be making the most of my money now – before I fall off my peg”.
